Not much concrete or steel
In this town I’m living in, I guess you could say
We’ve been lost here in time since time round here began
There I church I pray in is down on the square
That’s where I buried my best friend last year
He was too young to die
So I keep asking God why

I’m just a man, who am I to question
I don’t understand how things work in heaven
Some nights I wake up and wonder like you do
Does God pray too

Christmas like a slow moving train
Is just up around the bend
And I’m barely scraping by, it’s gonna be hard to face my kids
I watch my wife turn off the lights and turn away from me
Seems like lately she just cries herself to sleep
Up goes another prayer like all of the rest
Please don’t let her heart break like this
