Play You Again

I could drink you away just fine, wash you down with salt and lime
but you ain’t worth the hangover, the calories or time
and I could find myself at your door at 2 a.m. but hey what for
instead I’m thinking here’s what I’m gonna do

I’m gonna pick up this guitar
the one you gave me
and baby
turn you into a song
just to spite you
I’m gonna write you
and when my heart has had its say
I’m gonna put you in a drawer and lock you away
and I’m never gonna play you again

I think I’ll start out with how we met, our very first hello
from how you swore you’d never leave to the day you let me go
and when it’s done I’ll sing it through, probably shed a tear or two
but by the final line I’ll be over you

I’m gonna pick up this guitar
the one you gave me
it’s gonna save me
turn you into a song
just to spite you
I’m gonna write you
and when my heart has had its say
I’m gonna put you in a drawer and lock you away
and I’m never gonna play you again

not unless I feel like it
you’re gonna have to deal with it
now you’re nothing more than words in a song
right where you belong

I’m gonna pick up this guitar
the one you gave me
thank you baby
turn you into a song
just to spite you
I’m gonna write you
and when my heart has had its say
I’m gonna put you in a drawer and lock you away
and I’m never gonna play you again
we’ve reached the end
I’m never gonna play you again
